Doctor visit
>> Tuesday, December 23, 2008
We went to see the doctor again for an in-office ultrasound. She said that I'm about 8 weeks, which puts the estimated date of delivery (EDD) at Aug. 4! We also got to see the baby's heartbeat on the screen, and the doctor said that it's very strong, which is excellent news.
To get an accurate EDD, though, she said we should get another ultrasound, where they measure the baby crown-to-rump (head-to-hiney -- they do it this way because the baby is so curled up at this stage that they can't measure head-to-toe yet). And, of course, because insurance is the root of all evil, the only way to get an early ultrasound (before 20 weeks) is to get a "sequential screening," which is an ultrasound combined with a bloodtest, done by a genetic specialist to determine if there are any genetic problems, such as Down syndrome, etc.
So we're getting that. The sequential screening appointment will be Jan. 22.
And our next visit with the OB is Jan. 20 -- then I'll be 12 weeks!!! (Assuming that the baby doesn't measure at a completely different size than we thought...) After that, it's on to the second trimester!
